Memorial Day

This cake was a first for me on many fronts. This is the first cake I used candy clay on. The stars on the top are made of candy clay. It took a lot of mixing to get the consistency right but once I did the stars were very easy to make and apply. This cake is also the first cake I made completely from scratch. The frosting is a vanilla buttercream and the cake is classic yellow vanilla cake.

Cubed

The Rubik's Cube cake was created out of five 8x8 cakes. They were stacked and iced together and then carved to even out the cube. Each side was frosted and then the black piping was added.

Apple Products in Frosting

I'm beginning my cake blog with the cake that has, by far, taken me the longest to create. My mom and I began making fun cakes about four years ago. A few of them can be found on my Picasa account. I decided to begin this blog as a running narrative as I begin to experiment more with cake design, recipes, and techniques. The iPhone cake was the first cake I used Wilton icing color set to make. It took quite a lot of coloring to get the black icing right but it came out well.
